Guide for Fitting Ballet Shoes: The objective for a good fit in ballet shoes is to have the shoe as tight as practical to the foot and the idea is for the ballet shoe to 'mould' the dancers foot, fitting like a glove. This is the reason ballet shoes are made symmetrical with no left or right foot. Children’s feet grow rapidly and in a short period of time. Having a ballet shoe too small can cause permanent damage to a child’s foot.
As a guide, the younger child, the more 'growing room' you can allow. As the child grows older and has several years of training behind them, they will want a tighter snugger shoe. Beginners should be fitted with the toes close to the end of the shoe (about 0.5cm of growing room). The heel should have little to no gaping- this is where the elastic drawstring assists.
Every increase in width equates to half a size in length. As the shoes begins to be fitted more firmly you will need to go up a fitting. For eg. A dancer wearing a 3B shoe could also fit into a 2 1/2C, the width fitting is the same, the difference is in the length.
Please note that this item can only be exchanged if the elastics on the front of the ballet shoe have not been pulled as this moulds it to the individuals foot.
